Description:
The women group is engaged in color carpet weaving activities for the last 6 years. The group leader has the experience of 25 years. She started learning the skill when she was only 8-years old and she learnt the skill from her mother.
During the survey of the village we came to know about the group who is involve in carpet weaving work since 6-years. The women group has no financial resources to start their own business. One of the residents has taken the advantage of this situation and become a middle man and providing the raw material to the group and they are working for him as daily wage workers on a very low wage. The total length of the carpet is 9ft and width 6ft.
The total income of each woman per day is RS: 40/- and monthly RS: 1,040/- GBP 7 which is not enough to fulfill the basic needs of their families. The women members are working for nine hours daily i.e. 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The women group wishes to start their own business and also shared all problems with the staff of PWF during the survey.
The group members further informed the staff that if we start our own business we can increase our income. They further said that with the financial resources in hand we can purchase raw material and equipment which is the basic need for weaving of a carpet and it will cost RS: 13,000/- (GBP 93). The members further hoped that we will make one carpet in fifteen days and will earn RS: 10,000/- (GBP 71) and each group member will get a share of RS: 2,000/- (GBP 14) per carpet and it will help all the group members to fulfill the needs of their families and later their younger brothers, sisters and children may start going to school.

Outcomes:
The out put of the project is very encouraging, as there is every possibility of earning good profit by making quality carpets by using self material. It is also expected that new job opportunities will be created for the unemployed women of the region and they can also earn and learn the skill of carpet weaving. The main goal of the project is to create opportunity of income generation for the women group and other young girls in order to uplift their families and themselves too.
|
Benefit:
The activity which Public Welfare Foundation has proposed has great scope in the carpet making business. There is always a chance to earn good profit if the material is being used from ones own pocket, therefore, if we support the women group it will help them make good and quality carpets. By making quality carpets the profit margin also increases and the same amount could be used for the well being of the women group members and for the expansion of the enterprises. Therefore, we are quite confident that project will bring out good benefits for the women group members and for others as well.
