Rosary necklaces are used as a complement to prayer. Low income families learn how to make necklaces and bracelets from dead shells collected on the beach. Necklaces and bracelets will be given additional accessories such as the cross (as pendant) so that it can be used as a necklace rosary.
Benefit:
Necklaces sell for $3 or more and take an hour to make. Little money but when you are living on less than $2 per day this puts extra food on the table, pays for medicine or school books. MicroAid – practical solutions for families living in poverty.

Woven fabrics are favored by locals and foreign tourists who come to our area. In this training, we want to learn to make hand bags and waist bags made from woven fabric. The woven fabric we use are genuine hand-made from our coaching family. To increase the sale value, so we made it in the form of a very beautiful bag worn by women and families.
Benefit:
We want to have the skill to make bags from woven fabric because it can increase the sale value of the fabrics we made. This craft is well liked by the family and appropriate when used in special occasions or everyday use.

Learn to make traditional bags from palm leaves

This training will provide skills for mothers to learn to make bags and shopping baskets from palm leaves. Coconut trees are abundant in our village, so the raw material is abundant and we can make the bags and baskets with a variety of designs. The selling price of bags and baskets made from palm leaves are £ 2 – £ 4 per piece; can be used for everyday needs or as a souvenir for tourism. We desperately need your help so that we can learn the business skills.
Benefit:
We will learn to make bags and shopping baskets from palm leaves. If the result is good, then we will try to sell to a supplier for the seller bags in our village market. We are happy if we can get extra money for the family

Training made beautiful vase of large shells

Activity:
There are many large shells on the beach around our house. We use the shells of dead mussels (no animals anymore). We use these shells as potted plant or vase of flowers that can be placed on a coffee table. It is very beautiful and exclusive.
The training that we will do is to know the various types of shells, how to clean it, maintain and decorate the shells that can stand up and lay on the table.
Benefit:
Crafts made from shells are very beautiful and have a high selling value. If we can make this craft, then we will try to sell at hotels or airports at Maumere City. This craft can be a souvenir for tourists, both foreign and domestic.

Learn to make dinner plates from rattan

Activity:
One day there was a wedding party in our village and there are plates for dinner served made of rattan. The plates are very unique and interesting, because we never seen before. For serving food, above the plate covered with banana leaves or plastic coated paper.
In this training, we learned to make dinner plates made from rattan. The training begins to clean up the rattans and forming the plate. If we are able to create it, then we will try to sell these plates in the village market.
Benefit:
As a work of art, then this type of dinner plate is perfect when used at a party or a family reunion. We will sell our work in the local market or to our neighbors, so we can earn extra money for the family.

Project report: Learning to make shells handicrafts
Result:
We learned to make crafts from shells because the shells were much scattered on the beach where we were staying. Currently shells that have no contents were only collected on the waterfront and is not used by the residents of our village. Most of the residents in the village of New Town was fishing for fish in the sea.
Here we learn to make necklaces, bracelets and a pair of curtains that are all made of shells. Large shells are also we use as a decorative plant containers. We learned this craft from the craft designs on the internet. With the guidance from a local trainer, we also learned how to clean the shells, stringing shells into a necklace, bracelet and curtains and pack it into a craft that looks interesting, so it can be sold in the market.
Next step:
Active to promote the seashell crafts made by family group so many people will know the craft and buy from them. These crafts are made by student of high school so that when their products are sold, they will have money to pay their school.

Project report: Development of hat’s design from woven fabric
Result:
Facilitators began training with the introduction of a wide range of equipment needed to make hats. In general, participants learn how to make hats, how to design a hat, as well as illustrate the potential of the local market and the global market. Participants also learn how tidy up the edges and how to sew, and how to promote / sell in the market at a reasonable price.
Families are also given moral support and encouragement that with this skill then the mothers can earn money for the family, while taking care of the family and do the activity without leave the house.
Next step:
Facilitators visit the group of women to provide ongoing support to make a hat with a different design, sew again from woven fabric and provide motivation to sell in the local market Maumere. In regular meeting we also agreed that member savings from the sale of its products, in order to develop their own businesses.
